Earth Day program planned

(Apr. 15, 2002)   —   An Earth Day program at East Carolina University on Monday, April 22, will induct new members into a national honor society for environmental health professionals and will recognize the work of three environmental leaders in North Carolina.

Molly Diggins, Rep. Marion McLawhorn and Dr. Robert Uebler will be inducted as honorary members of Epsilon Nu Eta, the National Honor Society for the Environmental Health Professional. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 105 of the Belk (Allied Health) Building.

Diggins is the state director of the N.C. Sierra Club. McLawhorn is a state legislator from Pitt County. Uebler is a regional soil scientist with the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

In addition to the honorees, the society will induct three East Carolina University students as members. The inductees are Christa Alexander of Snow Hill, Brian Tuttle of High Point and Trevor Vanderplaats of Fayetteville.

The student members are working toward careers in the environmental health professions. A primary standard for student membership is superior academic performance.

The honorary members are recognized for their contributions to the environmental health field through research, employment, or service.

Dr. Trenton Davis, a professor in the ECU Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Safety, Boyce Hunt, the president of the ECU Epsilon Nu Eta chapter, and John Anema of the N.C. Sierra Club’s Cypress Group will give the welcoming remarks.
