Board of Governors approve ECU tuition hike

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has approved a tuition increase totaling $203 for in-state undergraduates at East Carolina University.

The increase was part of system-wide proposals approved by the board on Feb. 11. The increases, which must go to the General Assembly for final approval, will be effective in the 2000-2001 academic year. The board will consider fee increase proposals at its March meeting. At ECU, tuition for resident undergraduates will go from $992 a year to $1,195 a year. That figure includes a 2.1 percent across-the-board inflation adjustment of $21, a $32 increase because of the university’s transition to doctoral status, and a $150 campus-based increase.

Funds generated by the tuition increase will be used by the university to provide additional financial aid and to enhance faculty salaries, library resources and information technology. The Board of Governors also raised tuition for out-of-state undergraduates at ECU by $399, from $8,558 to $9,057.

For ECU graduate students, in-state rates will go from $1,012 to $1,238 and out-of-state rates will increase from $8,578 to $9,100.
