Chancellor appoints new assistant

Taffye Benson Clayton, former director of the Ledonia Wright African-American Cultural Center at East Carolina University, has been named special assistant to the chancellor and director of equal employment opportunity.

Clayton holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C. Before joining the ECU staff in 1995, she was a U.S. Senate Legislative Fellow for Sen. Edward Kennedy on the Committee on Labor and Human Resources.

Chancellor Richard Eakin said, “I am delighted that Taffye Benson Clayton has accepted this new assignment as a member of my cabinet. She brings to this position exceptional experience and insight and I look forward to working with her.”

Clayton will work with senior administrators at ECU to assure the university’s compliance with federal and state requirements regarding equal opportunity and affirmative action. She succeeds Dr. Garrie Moore, who has been appointed vice chancellor for student life.
