Moore named to head East Carolina student life
Dr. Garrie W. Moore, assistant to the chancellor and director of equal employment opportunity at ECU, has been named vice chancellor for student life. Moore’s appointment, which is effective Sept. 1, was approved in August by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
He will succeed Dr. Alfred T. Matthews, who is retiring. Moore joined ECU last year after serving as dean of students at Pitt Community College since 1989. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from ECU and master’s and doctoral degrees from North Carolina State University.
Chancellor Richard Eakin said, “I am very pleased that Dr. Moore has accepted this appointment as vice chancellor. He has a distinguished record of service to higher education and to this region and he has served East Carolina superbly as director of equal employment opportunity. I know that he will continue the tradition of outstanding leadership in the Division of Student Life.”
The division includes non-academic student activities and programs on campus, such as housing, dining services, recreation and intramural, student health services, orientation, the student center, financial aid, career services, testing, counseling and minority student affairs.
