ECU grad picked for Alumni Relations Post

Joseph Phillip Horne, former vice president for institutional advancement at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., has joined East Carolina University as associate vice chancellor for alumni relations.

Horne succeeds Donald Leggett, who retired from the post at the end of 1997 after 28 years with East Carolilna. At Christopher Newport, Horne was also president of the Educational and Real Estate foundations. He earned a master of arts degree from ECU in 1990.

James L. Lanier Jr., vice chancellor for institutional advancement at ECU, said, “We are thrilled to have someone with Phil’s experience and enthusiasm coming in to lead our alumni program into the next century. We’re especially pleased to have an ECU alumnus in the position.”

Horne will oversee all aspects of the university’s alumni program and serve as executive secretary of the ECU Alumni Association. Lisa Benton, Alumni Association president, said,”I look forward to working with Phil as we map out a strategic plan for the new directions in which we can take the Alumni Association for the betterment of East Carolina University.”
