Professor writes book for educators
Allan A. Glatthorn, a professor in the East Carolina University School of Education, and three of his colleagues, have published a new book about planning and teaching in the schools.
The book, “Performance Assessment and Standards-Based Curricula: The Achievement Cycle,” was released in January by Eye on Education, a Larchmont, N.Y. publisher.
Donald Bragaw, an ECU professor emeritus; Karen Dawkins, assistant director of the Science and Mathematics Education Center; and John Parker, a doctoral student and assistant superintendent of the Roanoke Rapids City Schools, contributed to the volume.
Dr. Glatthorn said the book “explains to educators how to develop school curricula based on standards, how to design better ways of measuring student performance, and how to teach so that student performance is improved.”
Bragaw, Dawkins and Parker contributed chapters on how to use the achievement cycle in social studies, science and mathematics. The author is a Distinguished Research Professor of Education and is a former high school teacher, principal and supervisor.
He has written more than 20 books about curriculum and instruction. Seven of his books have been published since 1990. Glatthorn has three additional books scheduled for publication in 1998.
