Supercomputer exec to join ECU as head of Information Technology

A top administrators at the Ohio Supercomputer Center will join East Carolina University next month to direct information technology programs on campus.

Dr. Jeffrey C. Huskamp will fill the new position of associate vice chancellor for administration and finance – information technology. He will assume the post on Nov. 1.

Huskamp has served as director of federal programs at the Ohio Supercomputer Center since 1995. His work there included the development of plans for increased federal funding from such agencies as the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation and the Advanced Projects Research Agency.

He was the director the North Carolina Supercomputing Center from 1990 to 1995 and the vice president of the Consortium for Scientific Computing at the John Von Neuman National Supercomputer Center at Princeton University from 1987 – 1990. He holds a doctorate degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.

In announcing the appointment, Richard Brown, vice chancellor for administration and finance, said Huskamp “has an amazingly comprehensive and in-depth background in the most advanced technologies in fields such as computational science, information management and education.”

“His excellent professional contacts both in the state of North Carolina and throughout the country that will offer East Carolina University a forum to continue to demonstrate innovative leadership through technology,” Brown said.
