ECU fall enrollment at record high

After three years of relatively flat numbers, fall enrollment at East Carolina University is 17,851, setting a record for the campus.

The previous high was 17,757 in 1992. Last year’s figure was 17,479.

The numbers are preliminary, based on the most recent counts, but they are not expect to change significantly.

The student body this fall includes 14,707 undergraduates, 2,844 graduate students and 300 medical students, compared with 14,363 undergraduates, 2,813 graduate students, and 303 medical students a year ago.

There are 10,486 women and 7,365 men. IN 1996, the numbers were 10,275 women and 7,204 men.

This fall’s enrollment includes 2,072 African-Americans, up from 1,882 last year.

The total also includes 15,537 North Carolina residents and 2,314 out-of-state students. Last year the comparable figures were 15,167 North Carolina residents and 2,312 out-of-state students.
