Eakin to chair CFA board

East Carolina University Chancellor Richard R. Eakin is the new Chairman of the Board for the College Football Association (CFA).

The CFA represents most of the major Division 1A college football programs in the United States. The exceptions include the programs affiliated with the Big Ten and Pack Ten conferences.
A total of 63 schools are members. Eakin’s election to the post came in a vote by board members earlier this month. He succeeds Dr. E. Roger Sayers, the president of the University of Alabama, in the board’s chair position.

“I think it will have a positive outcome for us,” said Eakin, in commenting on his new leadership role. “It certainly reflects the fact that East Carolina is respected among the members of the College Football Association,” he said.

Eakin has served on the CFA Board of Directors for the past three years. He is the representive for the football programs that are independent of conference affiliation. The CFA is based in Boulder, Colorado. The board met June 6 in Dallas, Texas.
