ECU’s dietetic program approved
GREENVILLE, NC — East Carolina University’s dietetics program that teaches students about nutrition and the commercial preparation and delivery of food has attained the approval of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Dr. Helen Grove, dean of the ECU School of Human Environmental Sciences, said the approval covers a 10-year period and follows an extensive self-study and review by the ADA Division on Accreditation/Approval. “We are especially pleased with the approval because it comes with no stipulations, something which is uncommon in ADA reviews,” she said. She also noted that ECU’s post-baccalaureate practice program, called “AP4,” was also approved by the ADA for 10 years. The baccalaureate and AP4 programs in the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management, qualify students to take the national registration exam. Grove said that over the last three years the graduates, with one exception, have passed the registration exam on the first attempt.
