Legacy Residence Hall reopens after $29 million renovation

Constructed in 1960 as the second residence hall on East Carolina University’s College Hill, Legacy Hall returns to service this fall following a yearlong, approximately $29 million renovation. The project is part of a larger $54 million investment in Legacy Hall and Jones Hall designed to modernize the student living experience.
The renovation brings significant updates throughout Legacy Hall, including a new roof and windows, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, new heating and cooling units in student rooms and new furniture. An elevator was also added to improve accessibility.
Students will enter through a new ground-floor lobby and atrium and have access to additional community and study spaces throughout the building. The front lawn and surrounding landscaping were also redesigned to create more green space around the residence hall.
One of the most noticeable changes is in the bathrooms. The former community bathrooms have been replaced with modern, single-occupancy bathrooms shared by students on each floor. The family-style design provides students with greater privacy while maintaining a shared residential experience.
Legacy Hall will house approximately 450 students this fall. For generations of Pirates, College Hill has been more than a place to live it has been a place to make friends, find community and create lasting memories.
