ECU Foundation welcomes three new board members

The ECU Foundation’s board of directors has appointed three East Carolina University alumni as new members.

Garry Dudley, Angela Furniss and Dr. Shannon Minges have joined the board. Their four-year terms started in July and will end in 2030. They will support the ECU Foundation by promoting and strengthening the university through the solicitation, management and distribution of private gifts.

“I am excited to welcome these dedicated alumni to the board of directors. Their professional expertise and varied backgrounds will contribute tremendously to the work of the ECU Foundation and our efforts to advance the university,” said Christopher Dyba, vice chancellor for university advancement and foundation president.

Steve Cunanan ’87 ’91 and Todd Ervin ’94 continue in their leadership roles on the 32-member board. Cunanan serves as chair and Ervin as vice chair.

Garry Dudley

Dudley ’92 earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, with a concentration in marketing from ECU. An active supporter of Pirate athletics, he is a longtime member of the ECU Pirate Club and serves as president of the Richmond, Virginia chapter. He also previously served on the ECU Alumni Association board of directors.

Dudley lives in Chesterfield, Virginia, and has built a 30-plus-year career in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, holding multiple sales leadership roles. He serves as executive territory business manager for Biogen Inc., where he has driven sales growth across multiple therapeutic areas, including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Friedreich ataxia and other rare diseases. A multi-award winner, he was inducted into the prestigious Biogen Diamond Club in recognition of his outstanding performance.

He and his wife, Monica ’94 ’96, have two daughters, one of whom is studying in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at ECU.

In his spare time, Dudley enjoys traveling to the Caribbean, scuba diving, CrossFit training and spending fall weekends at ECU tailgates and Pirate football games.

Angela Furniss

Furniss ’93 is a seasoned healthcare industry executive with extensive experience in strategic account management, market access and business development.

She serves as director of national accounts in market access at Dexcom, where she partners with key stakeholders to advance innovative diabetes management solutions and improve patient outcomes. Throughout her career, Furniss has held leadership roles with healthcare organizations, including Novo Nordisk and Roche, where she developed expertise in payer relations, sales leadership and healthcare strategy.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from ECU and an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University. She and her husband live in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Shannon Minges

Minges ’07 ’11 ’15 is a dentist and co-owner at Smiles by Shaw. She is an inaugural graduate of the ECU School of Dental Medicine and earned a Bachelor of Science in health education and promotion, with a minor in business, and a Master of Public Health from ECU.

She is a member of the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Society. Minges is a board member of the Dominican Dental Mission Project and volunteers annually.

Minges served as a member of the organization formerly known as the Women’s Roundtable board of directors for eight years and the ECU Alumni Association board of directors for nine years, serving as chair of the ECUAA board in 2024. She holds emeritus status on both boards. Minges was also a 2016 recipient of ECU’s Forty Under 40 Leadership Award.

She and her husband, Miles, have one son, Corbin. They live in Greenville.
