ECU Crime Alert Update: Juveniles identified

GREENVILLE, N.C. (12/01/2025) – On November 27, 2025, ECU Police received a report that a group of seven male juveniles pointed a gun at a victim walking down the sidewalk on Cotanche Street near the ECU Eakin Student Recreation Center. The suspects were identified on Nov. 28 following a combined investigation with the Greenville Police Department. It is believed the juveniles displayed a BB gun that was modified by removing the orange safety tip, making the weapon appear more realistic.

The juveniles range in age from 8 to 14 years old. The ECU Police Department will work with the Office of Juvenile Justice in concluding the investigation.

Chris Sutton, Deputy Chief of the ECU Police Department, stated regarding the incident and investigation, “This incident was investigated thoroughly and, thanks to our combined efforts with the Greenville Police Department, it was resolved quickly. Modifying any toy gun to resemble and look like a real firearm is extremely dangerous. It not only endangers the public but also puts the safety of the person using it and any law enforcement officers they may encounter at risk.”
