Chancellor Rogers’ Message, August 2025

Welcome Back, Pirates – A Message From ECU Chancellor Rogers

Welcome to the Fall Semester

As the fall semester kicks off, energy surges on East Carolina University’s campus – a sense of possibility, purpose and, of course, Pirate pride. Whether you’re just arriving or returning, this is a moment to reflect on what it means to be a part of a university community that’s always moving forward. From our founding as a teachers’ training school to the historic announcement last spring of our R1 status, ECU’s legacy is built on resilience and innovation, and this year, we will continue that tradition together.

The vitality of our region and ECU’s commitment to excellence and innovation are intrinsically linked. By adapting to the evolving needs of our students and communities, we reinforce ECU’s impact, honor the legacy of those who came before us, and move toward an even more prosperous future.

Our values unite us, and our shared vision will guide us as we embrace the opportunities ahead, support one another and stay focused on what matters most: our mission to be a national model for student success, public service and regional transformation.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months and hearing your ECU stories.

Have a great fall semester. And Go Pirates!
