Brody School of Medicine student and former Division I athlete challenges dean to a shotput contest

WHAT: First-year Brody Scholar and former NCAA Division I standout Kamryn Henderson will challenge Brody School of Medicine Executive Dean Jason Higginson, M.D., to a friendly shot put competition in the circle on the south end of ECU’s outdoor track and field facility.

Henderson, from Waxhaw, is one of three Brody Scholars in the Class of 2028, while Higginson, a former high school baseball all star, steps into the shot-put circle with light expectations and the clear-eyed resolve of demonstrating the community created between students and faculty in the school. He hopes current and future students believe that, at the Brody School of Medicine, unique talents are prized, as is the discipline to develop them, an expectation to achieve, and respect toward all.

The Brody Scholars program, now in its fifth decade, pays for awardees’ school tuition, much of their living expenses, and offers a $5,000 travel stipend.
